Whenever Eureka launches yet another "Mignon" espresso grinder onto the market, the knee-jerk reaction is to ask: "Another one?" After all, there are now well over a dozen structurally similar espresso grinders in the Mignon family line.
However, the Eureka Mignon Libra breaks out of that mold—at least partially. It is the first Mignon featuring an integrated scale. Ground coffee output is no longer controlled by a timer, but stops automatically once the target weight is reached directly inside the portafilter. That's brilliant—when it works.
In this review, you'll learn how accurately the Eureka Mignon Libra weighs, grinds, and fits into your home espresso workflow. We also provide practical workflow tips and evaluate the grinder's key strengths and weaknesses.
In the meantime, Eureka has launched another version: the Eureka Libra 65 All Purpose. We have tested that model as well.
In Short – Key Takeaways on the Eureka Mignon Libra
The Eureka Mignon Libra is a very good espresso grinder. It builds upon the proven strengths of the Eureka Mignon line, combining them and adding a decisive upgrade: integrated scale technology.
- The Libra's integrated scale works well: It can be calibrated easily and delivers reliable target dose accuracy.
- However, the grounds exit chute doesn't aim perfectly into the center of the portafilter, causing coffee grounds to scatter around the grinder base.
- This is a common issue with Eureka Mignon grinders, which on other models is solved by tapping or shaking the portafilter while grinding.
- With the Libra, tapping the portafilter during grinding is impossible because it disrupts the live weighing process and causes errors.
- The solution is a dosing funnel (dosing ring), which was originally not included in the box. With a dosing funnel, the grinder is fantastic; without one, it can be messy. Eureka now includes a funnel in current production batches (see manufacturer update below).
- Matching dosing funnels can be sourced from Barista Legends* or by Wiedemann via Stoll Espresso*.
- To tare and trigger the grinding cycle, the Libra requires a minimum portafilter tare weight of 175 grams. Very lightweight portafilters or dosing cups may not trigger the scale properly.
- Continuous manual grinding without weight measurement is not straightforward; at least 175 grams must sit on the fork (triggered by pressing both cup icons on the display). Grinders like the Baratza Sette 270Wi handle manual overrides better.
- Some bottomless portafilters do not sit securely on the hands-free fork.
A Modified Eureka Specialità with Scales
Strictly speaking, the Eureka Mignon Libra is a Eureka Mignon Specialità fitted with integrated scales.
A smart upgrade is that it uses the larger grind adjustment dial from the Eureka Mignon XL, correcting one of the biggest usability flaws of the Specialità. Otherwise, the Libra shares the classic Specialità foundation.
55 mm flat steel burrs reside inside a square aluminum body. Measuring 12.4 cm wide, 43 cm high, and 19.2 cm deep, its footprint is similar to the Mignon XL.
Elsewhere, the Libra exhibits solid Specialità performance: At 79.8 dB, it remains relatively quiet. Total retention measures 2.4 grams. Grinding 20.2 grams in 10 seconds puts it in the upper-middle speed range for home espresso grinders. Temperature rises across back-to-back shots, but stays acceptable at an average of 36.1 °C.
There is a bright spot regarding grind adjustment: The Libra comes equipped with the larger dial from the XL. This allows for finer, more precise grind adjustments, even though the mechanism remains fairly sensitive by design.
Most importantly: In-cup espresso quality mirrors that of a Eureka Mignon Specialità. Shots yield a rounded, body-forward espresso. The 55 mm burrs excel particularly with medium to dark espresso roasts.

A Good Scale with One Small Flaw
The Libra's integrated scale works extremely well in general. It can be calibrated easily and holds accuracy over time. Shot after shot, the grinder reliably dispenses the target dose straight into your portafilter.
Unfortunately, there is one flaw: while the portafilter contains the correct target weight after grinding, a fraction of a gram often scatters around the grinder base. The chute trajectory doesn't target the center of the basket cleanly, spraying grounds over the edges.
This is a characteristic trait of many Eureka Mignon grinders, which users normally solve by gently tapping the portafilter while grinding. On the Libra, you cannot touch or tap the portafilter, as any contact disrupts the scale sensors.
A Dosing Funnel is the Perfect Solution
Using a dosing funnel (dosing ring) completely resolves the issue. Portafilters fit onto the hands-free fork even with a funnel attached, catching 100% of the grounds. With a dosing funnel, spray is zero.
A dosing funnel is the essential accessory for a clean countertop.

Espresso Workflow with the Eureka Libra
A Grind-by-Weight grinder simplifies your routine immensely. A standard brew ratio for espresso is roughly 1:2.5 (e.g., 15 grams of ground coffee yields 37.5 grams of liquid espresso in the cup).
Traditional timer-based grinders require tedious tweaking of grind time to hit target weights. Every time you adjust grind size, flow rate changes, forcing you to recalibrate time settings again.
A Grind-by-Weight grinder like the Libra automates dosing completely: Lock in your portafilter, the scale tares automatically, and it grinds the exact target dose every single time.
Tip: When adjusting grind size, you should still purge roughly 3 grams of coffee to clear stale grounds from the grinding chamber retention zone.
Verdict on the Eureka Mignon Libra
Without a dosing funnel, the Eureka Mignon Libra suffers from grounds scattering around the chute. In core performance metrics like in-cup quality, noise level, and speed, it matches the solid foundation of the Specialità.
When paired with a matching dosing funnel, grinding becomes exceptionally clean, accurate, and convenient. In this combination, the Eureka Mignon Libra is an outstanding Grind-by-Weight grinder that simplifies your daily home barista workflow.
With a dosing funnel attached, the Eureka Mignon Libra is a clear buy recommendation for home espresso and cappuccino lovers.
Eureka listened to community feedback and now includes a custom-designed dosing funnel with the Mignon Libra. It is also available separately in 58.3 mm or 54 mm sizes through specialized retail partners.
